Wind Turbines

Wind turbines are a reliable way to create clean, renewable energy. They are designed to exploit otherwise wasted wind energy and convert it into clean and green electricity. Wind turbines are most effective when the blades are at least 6 metres above ground and have clear space around them, so any urban configuration could well be grossly inefficient, particularly if it is retro-fitted. Wind turbines can work very effectively indeed at the correct location, location being a critical factor into the viability of the project.

Wind Turbines produce clean renewable energy

A wind turbines ability to produce electricity is limited to its supply of wind, different geographical produce different wind speeds. A good location would need a minimum wind speed of 6 meters a second to provide the energy the turbine would need to produce sufficient electricity to make the project viable, yet the optimal speed would be nearer 15 meters per second. It would not be wise to place a wind turbine say on the side of your property in a sheltered or semi sheltered location with a predicted low wind speed area. You can check your geographical predicted wind speed on a national database here.
