Overcoming The Road Blocks To Physical Fitness
Are there obstacles that stop you from making progress with improving your fitness? Your goals may include losing weight, and gaining more endurance and strength, but despite this you may find reasons not to exercise regularly. There are ways to get past these frustrating barriers to better fitness, and we’ll be looking at some of these here.
Eating healthily is very important. You must make sure you can get your daily dose of vitamins and minerals. If you are unable to face eating 5 or more veggies or fresh fruit each day, try out juicing. Juicing for health could be the solution because it means you get the nutrients your body requires while on a fitness program.
Many people blame a lack of time for not beginning or sticking with an exercise routine. Work and family responsibilities can make it difficult to find time to go to the gym or to take an exercise class. You may find that you’re not optimizing how you use your time if you look at your schedule. The average person in the U.S. watches about five hours of television a day, however. If that time is cut in half, think of how much time you’d now have for fitness related activities. Other time wasters are computer games, trivial phone calls, and text messaging. Cutting back on unproductive activities will give you more time for exercise. Some people feel they are too old to begin a fitness program. Not that long ago, this would have seemed like a valid reason not to begin exercising, but not anymore, as doctors and researchers have found that people of any age can benefit from exercise. Studies have shown, for example, that even people in their seventies and older can regain strength and muscle mass by lifting weights. Older people can benefit from walking, water based fitness programs and weight lifting exercises where you do more repetitions of lighter weights. The good news is that you can always start an exercise program and benefit from it, no matter what your age.
One reason many people don’t maintain their fitness programs is that they start off with unrealistic expectations and when they don’t see immediate results, they quit. You have to understand that improving your health and level of fitness doesn’t happen overnight. If your goal is to lose a certain amount of weight, or build muscle or endurance, you should recognize that the time it takes to achieve this may be longer than you’d like.
Yet, you’ll still reach your goals sooner by exercising than by not exercising! Take a “go with the flow” kind of attitude with your fitness program rather than expecting dramatic results in a short time. People can have difficulty maintaining a fitness program for any number of reasons. Yet, if you are committed to getting past these obstacles, you almost certainly can find a way. The ideas we’ve been discussing can help to get you past any fitness obstacles in your own life. No matter what your fitness level is right now, you can work on making it better.
