While the majority enjoy popularly watched games such as tennis and soccer, there are a lot of people who are involved in sports that do not have a big fan following. However, even those games are too much to fascinate the athletes and audience alike. There is one type of sport that is although very common but only some individuals are courageous enough to be a part of it as a professional athlete – the extreme games. The right definition of extreme games is hard to find, yet it can simply be categorized as a sports or activities that are associated with the adrenaline rush that is felt by the participants and the audience as well. Extreme games are also Known as action action or adventure games because they mainly fulfill the thirst for thrill and adventure. These games can take athletes to the edge of their physical and psychological extreme. Plus, these games involve a greater danger of fatal injury. However, every sport that involves a high risk of injury might not be extreme.

The term extreme sports is said to be termed by the highly publicized TV event, The X games. However, the start of such games links back to simple games and sports. The extreme afacionados usually add new and risky techniques and maneuvers in existing games to make it more thrilling for them and exciting for the audience. Skateboarding, which is a casual and popular activity around the blocks of America, was taken to extremes by performing extraordinary tricks at great heights and risky terrains. Likewise, extreme fanatics took the normal bike and BMX ride and changed the activity into extreme games such as dirt biking and extreme BMX.

The scope of going extreme in a sport is not restricted to the land but also in the sky and water. Sky diving, paragliding and bungee jumping are some of the most favorite games of this kind. moreover, hiking is also taken to the next stage by trekking the most impossible places such as glaciers and high mountains. Water gliding, surfing and paragliding are only some of the games that take the contestants to the extremes of their physical and mental stamina. Other water extreme sports include canoeing and rafting against speedy raging rivers.

As apparent in most games of this type, these sports don’t require any special field or conditions. Rather, they are played in a natural environment with litrally no or minimum safety gear and equipment. Today, there is a new breed of extreme games that depends totally on human physical capabilities and the ability to change the body into an amazing machine. A common example of these games is free running in which athletes jump and run with almost super-human skills.
