Eco Friendly Living Doesn’t Have To Be Hard
When it comes to embracing a more eco-consicous lifestyle for yourself and your family, the phrase “small changes make a big difference” could never hold more meaning.
Though most people have the misconception that living green is difficult, the truth is that you just need to ease yourself into it and afterward, as with anything you do often, it becomes habit.
Here are a few easy tips for getting your family slowly on track to a eco-consicous lifestyle.
1) Turn off the water while brushing your teeth or shaving. On average, doing so can save up to 3 gallons of water each day- that’s 90 gallons a month, over 1000 gallons a year! Imagine the impact that could have on the state of the Earth’s resources 20 years from now!
2) Hang those clothes out to dry! Use of conventional dryers is one of the biggest energy wasters of all time.
3) Reuse paper or plastic shopping bags as trash can liners. You’ll not only save money on those expensive trash liners, you’ll save some energy and a few trees along the way!
4) Take shorter showers. Spending even a couple minutes less in the shower could save more than 10 gallons of water.
5) Go Solar! Use solar chargers instead of the traditional electric chargers to power your electronics. Solar chargers on the market today can be bought for under $100 and can usually be used interchangeably with different cell phone brands as well as to power mp3 players. Solar energy is not only less harmful to the environment than electricity, it’s also much cheaper!
6) Recycle the old (and I am not just talking clothing). Did you know that there are programs to recycle electronics and even baby supplies? It’s true! A lot of the big name electronics suppliers offer you the option of returning used electronics to be reconditioned and reused. As for baby products, companies like BabyEarth are making it easy to recycle car seats, strollers, high chairs and more.
7) Get outdoors more. Spending more time outside encourages less use of energy consuming products like televisions and computers.
