Car and Truck Rims – The Histor

Posted on September 15th, 2009

Like jewelry worn to complement a suit or cocktail dress, car rims are a vital accessory to the look and attitude of an automobile or truck.

From back 1920s when hubcap was introduced with regularity on vehicles, chrome or painted rims on wheels make a destinguishing touch of personality of any vehicle.

The first automobile wheels were spoked wagon wheels lifted from horse-drawn carriages. With improvement of the manufacturing technology, steel rims appeared. Depression-era luxury cars such as the Duesenberg, Pierce-Aroww and Packard yield in construction of the first custom made rims.

Today, custom rims can measure from 20 to 30 inches, although the typical factory stock rims in America measure 16 or 17 inches in diameter.

In contrast to the early factory rims with impressive matching circular pinstripe, today’s custom chrome rims are aluminium or magnesium made.

Five-spoke chrome Cragers, straight-laced wire wheels and spinning wheels are popular choices, especially among lowrider enthusiasts.

IF you are going to buy a new car, you can always ask your car dealer to present you the extra equipment options for the custom chrome rims for your car or truck, instead of opting for the basic package that usually includes just a black or silver-painted wheels covered with plastic wheel-covers.

You are sik of the basic black or silver-painted wheels and covered with plastic wheelcovers so you decided to give your vehicle some extra personality.

You can always go to your local car shop or a car dealer, but the real challenge is to create a custom rims by yourself. Good news is – it may be less difficult that you might expected.
