Cross Country Movers: Ways to Having a Worry Free Move.
Relocating cross country can be worrisome experience. It has happened to our family two times in the past five years. My first idea, once again, was hiring a reliable moving company as the one we had previously used was out of business and had caused us an unending amount of problems for us.
As a beginning, I called several cross country movers in the phone book. I succeeded in gathering several to come to the house and prepare some estimates. I was not really interested in cheap movers as I was in the quality of their packing/loading and the references that they could provide.
The previous company that we hired caused damage to our belongings and, some of it was missing when it arrived at the new home. The largest error we made with that company was not going to an external source to insure our goods. After months of attempting to get representatives from both the moving company and the insurance company to get a hold of us, I gave up. We were not able to find our items, nor were we able to be compensated, as they had subsequently gone out of business.
A couple of the moving companies were turned down by us at once as they were not willing to unpack the boxes at our new place without charging us an extra cost and also were not able or willing to provide references. Therefore, when Mr. Bill Smith arrived, wearing a uniform and looking crisp and clean, I was relieved. He put me immediately at ease about the move. Provided me with all the literature I needed to explain the process. The quote he would provide me was final. There would be no hidden fees and they also had a reputable insurance company that they went through to insure our goods. All of this, including unpacking at the new home was all included in the cost. We accepted his quote and set the dates for the packing and loading.
On the big day, Bill arrived, along with the workers, to oversee and supervise the process. They brought blankets to lay down on the floor so as dirt would not be brought into the house. They wrapped all our breakable things in bubble wrap and packing paper. Our furniture was prepared by taking off legs, and wrapping it in plastic to protect it from getting dirty during the move. I was surprised with the quickness and the ease at which the packing was done.
The next day, Bill arrived again with his crew for the loading process. The truck was immaculately clean and empty. It would hold only our things, no one else’s. The movers used care while moving things out of the house, onto the truck, so that there would not be any damage done to the walls or door frames. They worked quickly and with ease. The workers were polite, and also made the children feel like they were part of the move as well. They allowed them pack their soft toys and allowed the kids to mark their own boxes with kids stickers for identification. By doing this, it relieved some of the stress of the relocation for the kids.
